So I have run fathers groups for the past 7 years in RI and southeastern Mass. I do admit that I hit a funk and lost some of the excitement in running groups. I seemed to have lost why I was doing these group for the young men. It takes a lot to find the guys who would let you into there lives and hear there stories. I put off running some groups because attendance wasn't as robust as it once was. I saw this book when I was traveling. I picked it and it went on my self for things to read. Well it ended up in my beach bag for the long fourth of July weekend. I am so glad I read it. It seems to have re- lite the fire and passion I was missing in working with the young males that I do. The chapter about the "salesman" rang true. You are the believer in what you are "selling". I was able to sit back and look at how I do the little things differently as I prepare to sell what I do again. The chapter titled the jugglers made me think of how to look at the groups through the guys eyes and be able to handle all of the things they bring but keep thing fatherhood focused and move forward. I now look at how AI run my groups and the ways I can improve myself to become the master at running group! thank you for the energy boost!
If you have ever facilitated or participated in a fathers’ group, there’s a good chance you will be able to attach a name or names to the 22 archetypes Haji Shearer presents in this fascinating book. His clear and concise descriptions are accompanied by descriptive examples, anecdotes and gentle warnings for facilitators. Each chapter is worthy of careful reading followed by meditation on the principles he presents. I’ll be using this as part of my preparation again and again. It’s a “must read”.
I have started my journey with this excellent point of facilitating fathers' group's 22 key's; I am very impressed as a facilitator myself to the understanding of several part's that I have identified with on a personal level, the scientist; a lot of the mystic; and the pastor as well, continuing with this going within "activate your inner light"; share it with the world especially during your group work {this balance} knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom I think in term's of empowerment not charity enlist and restore the emotional wellbeing of other's Facilitating Father's 22 key's an ethical framework; to the concept of unconditional regard James Gordon, Attleboro, Ma.
